Deputy Commander

Lieutenant Colonel Dan Segura became the Deputy Commander of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Japan District in July 2017.  Lt. Col. Segura previously served as the Executive Officer to the Commanding General, Combined Security Transition Command – Afghanistan at Kabul, Afghanistan (2016-2017).
 

Prior to his Afghanistan deployment, Lt. Col. Segura served as Deputy Commander of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District (2015-2016).  Before that, he was a member of the Military Faculty for the Joint Forces Staff College at Norfolk, Virginia (2013-2015).  Prior to those assignments, he was the Chief of Operations for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Pacific Ocean Division (2012) and the Deputy Commander for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Honolulu District (2010-2012).  He served as the Battalion Executive Officer for the 19th Engineer Battalion at Fort Knox, Kentucky, deploying to southern Afghanistan (2008-2010); and served as the Multi National Corps – Iraq Senior Operations Officer in Baghdad, Iraq (2008).
 

Before attending the Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas (2007), Lt. Col. Segura served as the Combined Forces Command – Afghanistan Engineer Operations Officer in Kabul, Afghanistan (2006).  Previous assignments include an Observer Controller position with the 3/383rd in St. Louis, Missouri (2004-2005); Commander of the 63rd Engineer Combat Support Equipment Company at Fort Benning, Georgia, with deployment to Iraq (2002-2003); and positions with the 9th Engineer Battalion in Schweinfurt, Germany, as Combat Engineer Platoon Leader in Bosnia and Company Executive Officer in Kosovo (1997-2000).
 

Lt. Col. Segura’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, the Army Meritorious Service Medal with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Army Commendation Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Kosovo Campaign Medal with Bronze Star, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with 3 Bronze Stars, the Iraqi Campaign Medal with Bronze Star, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Armed Forces Service Medal, the Humanitarian Service Medal, the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Army Overseas Service Ribbon with Bronze Numeral 6, the NATO Medal with 3 Bronze Stars, the Airborne Badge, the Air Assault Badge, and the Bronze German Armed Forces Badge for Military Proficiency.  He has also been awarded the Bronze Order of the de Fleury Medal.
 

Originally from Virginia, Lt. Col. Segura graduated from the United States Military Academy in 1996 and was commissioned in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.  He is a graduate of the Command and General Staff College, the Engineer Captain Career Course and the Engineer Officer Basic Course.  Lt. Col. Segura’s civilian education includes a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the United States Military Academy and a Master of Science degree in Engineering Management from the University of Missouri at Rolla.
 

Lt. Col. Segura is married to Mrs. Steph Segura, originally from Alabama, and they have five children (Kristi, Daniel, Jaimi, Mark, and Hunter).
