John N. Peukert, R.P.A.

Deputy District Engineer for Programs and Project Management

John N. Peukert was selected as the Japan District’s Deputy for Programs and Project Management in June 2018.

He began his Corps’ career as a District Archeologist and Tribal Liaison for the Corps’ Vicksburg District from 2003 to 2008. He had the opportunity to be a lead archeologist and principal investigator on multiple archeological studies ranging from basic surveys to large mitigation/data recovery efforts. In March of 2008 he transferred to the Corps’ St. Louis District to serve as a Project Manager integrating all functions and processes involved in civil works projects across several business lines including inland navigation, flood risk management and aquatic ecosystem restoration. In October 2009 John was selected to serve as Chief of the General Plan Formulation Section St. Louis District; where he led and managed the District's planning program. Products ranged in scope from post-authorization changes to large scale feasibility studies, with a total dollar amount of potential federal water resources investment of over $500M. John had the pleasure to serve as the Planning and Environmental Branch Chief in the Pittsburgh District for three years (2012-2015). Pittsburgh’s planning portfolio represented more than $2B in potential federal water resources investment.

Most recently, John served as the St. Louis District’s Deputy for Programs and Project Management from September 2015 to June 2018. While he served in the position he oversaw the planning and execution of a robust civil works program that averaged between $200M to $300M annually in planning, construction, maintenance and operation of a large portfolio of water resources infrastructure. He oversaw a boutique International Interagency Support (IIS) program with over 50 external customers both regionally and around the globe. Additionally, during this time period St. Louis district was the top execution district in the nation on the Formerly Utilized Sites Remedial Action Program (FUSRAP), a Corps’ administered nuclear waste clean-up program. John, oversaw the budget development and execution of the Veteran’s Curation Program (VCP), a nationally renowned training program to assist America’s veteran in transition to civilian life.

John served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1991 to 1995, with duty at Station San Juan and aboard the Cutter Bear. He graduated from Southeast Missouri State University with a BA in Anthropology in 2000. John went on to attend the University of Mississippi (aka Ole Miss), where, as a NASA Research Fellow, received a MA in Anthropology with a focus on near-surface geophysics in 2002. He initiated a Cultural Resources Management business line in remote sensing and geophysics for a Dallas, Texas based AE firm from 2002 to 2003.

John is a Registered Professional Archaeologists. He is a 2008 graduate of the Corps’ national Planning Associates training program.

John resides in Sagamihara Japan with his wife and son. He enjoys canoeing, camping, and following Cardinals Baseball and Ole Miss Football.
