Bob Hope Amelia Earhart school groundbreaking
The Japan District recently broke ground on the first Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) 21st Century School in Okinawa. Located at Kadena Air Base, Japan, the new school is one of 16 schools to be constructed under an $868 million DoDEA program in Japan. 21st-century learning facilities, as defined by DoDEA, will support student-centered learning and provide continuity to military children worldwide. The 195,000 square-foot facility will replace Bob Hope Primary School and Amelia Earhart Intermediate School and will be called Ryukyu Elementary School. It will be the largest U.S. elementary school on the island, servicing approximately 840 students. The project is scheduled for completion in fall 2016.
