Japan District assists Zama American Middle School with STEM Ed
Col. John Hurley, commander of the USACE, Japan District and three engineers from the district visited Zama American Middle School May 27 as part of the Science, Technology Engineering and Math Education Program (STEM Ed) to help judge projects for a 7th grade science class. The projects culminated a six week session on “Natural Hazards and Disasters” conducted by Japan District volunteers Andrew Chan, John Feller, Andrew Jordan, and 1st Lt. Brian Liu in collaboration with Zama American Middle School teacher Georgina Ruisi. Throughout the six week period, Chan, Feller, Jordan, and 1st Lt. Brian Liu helped to facilitate the classroom sessions, providing real world engineering insight and face to face interaction with the teacher and students. At the session end, Col. Hurley provided Ruisi and the students with certificates for participating in the program. #USACE Photos by Rashida Banks.
