Merit Award for Joan K. Mendel Elementary School
The Replace Temp Classroom Building at Joan K. Mendel Elementary School, Yokota Air Base, Japan received a Merit Award for Facility Renovations and Additions in the 2015 U.S. Air Force Design Awards Program! These awards recognize the outstanding teamwork required to produce quality Air Force facilities, and the winning projects epitomize the skill and professionalism of the design teams. The $10.8 million project provided a new state of the art classroom facility for kindergarten and preschool age students with special needs in the Yokota Air Base community. The facility is one of the first in Japan to incorporate 21st century school design criteria set forth by the Department of Defense Education Activity (DODEA).
