The Japan Engineer District (JED) is one of 45 districts within the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers—the nation’s oldest and largest public engineering organization. As the designated agent for military design and construction in Japan, JED delivers professional engineering and construction services to U.S. forces, supporting both peacetime operations and contingency missions.
JED manages U.S. and Host Nation–funded projects at approximately 90 sites across Japan and Okinawa. These projects include airfields, hospitals, operational facilities, housing, and community support facilities. Unlike most stateside districts, JED does not have a civil works mission. Instead, it leads the world’s largest Host Nation–funded construction program in partnership with the Government of Japan, ensuring projects meet U.S. safety and operational standards while providing exceptional value.
The district works closely with the Government of Japan, regional Defense Bureaus, and U.S. military installations to provide engineering, construction, training, and environmental expertise. Guided by ISO 9001 standards, JED consistently prioritizes quality, safety, and efficiency in every project.
Joining JED means contributing to mission-critical infrastructure that directly supports U.S. servicemembers, Department of Defense civilians, and their families stationed in Japan. When you work with the Japan Engineer District, you’re not only strengthening the U.S.–Japan Alliance and America’s Pacific defense—you’re also part of a collaborative, motivated team.
