    Lawrence Seeba, or Lee, as he is affectionately known around the office, is retiring after a total of 37 years of civilian service and was awarded the Civilian Service Commendation Medal. He was the U.S. Army Corps of Engineer Japan Engineer District (JED) Chief of Construction division.

    Crawl, Walk, Run: Japan Engineer District exercise finds its legs

    Japan Engineer District's "walk, run, crawl" plan was crafted by JED’s Crisis Action Team to get JED up to speed in time to integrate this yearly exercise more fully with their higher headquarters, the Pacific Ocean Division, in 2025.
  • ‘Safe + Sound’ week is a nationwide campaign created by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), held each August to recognize the successes of workplace health and safety programs. Agencies like the Army Wellness Center, Fire & Emergency Services, and Army Public Health Command as well as JED’s Safety and Logistics offices all provided information to attendees.

  • Trekking out to the body of water located between the Sagamihara and Atsugi areas of the Kanagawa prefecture, the joint-U.S. and Japanese team’s goal was to compete in a team-building exercise – one that comprised over 50 JGSDF soldiers, whose ages ranged from 18-35.

    Tucked in the upper left corner of the third floor of the 35th Civil Engineer Squadron building a little way into Misawa Air Base, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is hiding a gem - the Misawa Resident Office; a satellite branch of Japan Engineer District, perched atop Japan’s main island of Honshu’s northernmost tip in a prefecture called Aomori.

    On any given day if you were to enter Japan Engineer District, you would hear him before you see him. A voice full of mirth, wrapped in the warmth of friendliness, with just a hint of a Hawaiian accent. Combined with a gaze that not even the tiniest safety infraction can escape, there’s no wonder why he stands as the chief of safety for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Japan. This is Daniel Fujimoto – half-Hawaiian, half-Japanese, and an all-American asset to the Corps.

    FLOATING BRIDGES OVER LAKE MIYAGASE

    Officers from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers – Japan District joined Members from the Japan Ground Self Defense Force 4th Engineer Group to observe JGSDF participants as they built a flotation bridge on Lake Miyagase on the border of Kanagawa, Japan, August 12.

    JED WELCOMES NEW COMMANDER

    As the Japan Engineer District’s colors passed from Command Sgt. Maj. Douglas W. Galick to Col. Thomas J. Verell, Jr., to Brig. Gen. Kirk Gibbs, and then to Col. Gary S. Bonham in the time honored Army tradition, Col. Bonham took command of Japan Engineer District becoming their 21st Command Engineer July 20, at Camp Zama, Japan.
