    Passersby Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni Building One on July 16 may have had to look twice when they saw the U.S. Army Corps of Engineer's bright red castle flag flying over the Marine headquarters.

Marine Col. Robert Boucher, commanding officer, MCAS Iwakuni, raised the USACE flag over the headquarters building with Lee Seeba, former resident engineer, Iwakuni Resident Office, under the joyful eyes of several Iwakuni Resident Office employees.

Boucher flew the engineer castle in Iwakuni as a "thank you" to the Corps' Iwakuni Resident Office for a job well done, after completing a particularly intricate project by deadline.

Bert Pechhold, current resident engineer, Iwakuni Resident Office, said the transformation that is occurring at MCAS Iwakuni could not be possible without the leadership and support from Boucher and his staff.

"This achievement symbolizes that spirit of cooperation and partnership between the Army and Marines," Pechhold said.

Seeba is currently the area engineer for the Japan District’s Okinawa Area Office.

    With more than half of the 1,633 acres that is Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, Japan under construction right now, many community members feel like the entire installation is one huge construction site.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Japan District began construction in July on a $27 million project that will renovate the Brig. Gen. Crawford F. Sams U.S. Army Health Clinic and the U.S. Army Dental Activity Japan Clinic on Camp Zama. Slated for completion in March 2016, the facility will provide enhanced medical care for military service members, civilians, and their families at Camp Zama. The first phase of the project involves constructing a temporary facility, shown here, to provide swing space for Clinic staff and patient care throughout the course of the existing clinic renovation. The renovation of the existing clinic facilities is slated to begin in Spring 2014.

    Corps continues renovation work on medical facilities at Camp Zama

    Work continues on a $27 million medical/dental facility project on Camp Zama that will enhance medical care for military members, civilians and their families on the installation. The project, slated for completion by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Japan District in March 2016, will renovate the Brig. Gen. Crawford F. Sams U.S. Army Health Clinic and the U.S. Army Dental Activity Japan Clinic, also known on post as Building 704.
  • Representatives from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Japan District’s Safety Office meet with Yokota Resident Office Quality Assurance staff and Hibiya Engineering at the project site for a classroom upgrade at Mendel Elementary School to ensure that all safety measures are in place before beginning demolition. The $9.6 million project currently underway at Yokota Air Force Base, Japan, includes the construction of a new classroom facility, playgrounds and covered walkways to connect the new addition to surrounding buildings.
