    U.S. Army Corps of Engineers - Japan Engineer District (JED) team members engage with subject matter experts during the Japan Engineer District’s 2026 C3 Conference at the Camp Zama Community Club, March 4th, 2026. Over the course of three days, participants engaged in presentations led by U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Headquarters representatives, district leadership, and subject matter experts. Topics ranged from commissioning and cost engineering to Design-Build contracting and construction safety.     Building Quality from the Ground Up: Japan District's C3 Conference Strengthens Construction Excellence

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers - Japan Engineer District (JED) strengthened its commitment to construction excellence and quality assurance during their Construction Division’s recent “C3 Conference,” a three-day event held at the Camp Zama Community Club that brought together professionals from across the district and beyond. The conference - short for Construction, Contracting, and Counsel - served as a focused forum for collaboration, training, and alignment among JED personnel responsible for delivering high-quality infrastructure in support of U.S. Forces Japan.

Engineers were divided into specialized groups—such as General Affairs, Architecture, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Electrical Engineering—where they explored shared concepts and strategies. This collaboration is vital for ensuring that military installations throughout Japan can effectively support both U.S. and Japanese forces in a rapidly changing geopolitical environment.

    U.S. and Japan Engineers Forge Stronger Defense Ties

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers - Japan Engineer District (USACE JED) Engineering Division held their annual Technical Forum at the Camp Zama Community Club on November 18th, 2025. This event, which included the Japanese Ministry of Defense (MoD) Facilities Engineering Group, marked the 27th year of this preeminent collaboration. It was also the second annual meeting between U.S. and Japanese defense engineers following disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Tech Forum brought together approximately 75 engineers and architects from the two organizations.

    Defense Health Agency to Japan: "We Hear You!"

    It’s no secret that Department of Defense civilians working in Japan are having a difficult time navigating healthcare options in Japan. This is due to restrictions placed on the usage of military-operated hospitals and clinics whose administration and management has recently fallen to the Defense Health Agency (DHA). The agency received a mandate from Congress in 2017 instructing them to prioritize treatment for active-duty service members, their families, and others covered by the military health plan TRICARE Prime, a service only available to Servicemembers on active duty, their immediate family, or as a benefit for someone who is retired from the military.

    ‘Hecho con mucho amor’ – Made with immense love. Written in vibrantly red cursive, the Spanish phrase adorns the entranceway to a kitchen, sectioned off with saloon-style swinging doors. The rhythmic beat of salsa music and scent of simmering meats and unique tang of cilantro embraces you. As you look around, your eyes are drawn to the red and yellow walls decorated with imagery of a sombrero-clad boy and his donkey, and the golden glow of still-warm empanadas resting, bringing you back to your local Tex-Mex joint back home.
